PETALING JAYA: The Star’s “Do Good. Volunteer” campaign has added another accolade by winning an award at the prestigious Marketing Events Award 2013 in Singapore.
The on-ground volunteer event, known as “Good Day Out”, was announced as the bronze award winner in the Best Event for Community Service Category.
The social initiative programmed is based on the concept of volunteerism, taking volunteers to places and projects around the city.
The Star initiated the programmed in conjunction with National Volunteer Year, aimed at instilling volunteerism by making it convenient and accessible to all.
“The idea is that once you have volunteered, you will want to do it again,” said Star Publications (M) Bhd corporate communication manager Siti Hajar Abdul Rahman yesterday.
Its volunteer-matching portal (dogoodvolunteer.com) and weekly editorial articles on volunteerism serve as a platform to connect volunteers and other non-governmental organisations in working together with the objective of nurturing a caring and selfless society.
The company’s corporate communication executive Selina Ng said: “It is hard work organizing the Good Day Out on a monthly basis, but there is hardly a dull moment, especially seeing repeat volunteers bringing others along with them.”
Recently, the programme received a Gold Award at the A+M Magazine’s Marketing Excellence Awards 2013 (Best in Corporate Social Responsibility) and a Bronze Award at the WAN-INFRA Asian Media Awards 2013 (Best in Community Service).
The Marketing Events Awards was presented by Marketing Events magazine which honours the best of Asia’s event marketing, management and planning industry.
